The Little Mermaid falls into a category I call "Love Conquers all, even rational thought". With all the red flags raised during the "Poor Unfortunate Souls" sequence, Ariel should have realized that Ursula wasn't trying to help her. Oh, and she had barely even met Eric.
Hahah I totally agree that Belle > Ariel Honestly Belle is (was) the only princess, besides Rapunzel and Tiana (but Im talking during the "Disney Princess Era"), who fell in love with her prince because everything other than his looks! Ariel is a shallow and selfish...but I still find myself watching the movie and listening to the music... But anyway AWESOME
They should have kept to the org. a bit more I think, don't kill her or anything just make it more true....there needs to be fairytales that are made into movies JUST as they are, no changes at all
Totally with Trapila on this one. Belle's more down-to-earth and has respect for the ones who love her and whom she loves back. She's kind-hearted, but she's definitely not selfish or a wimp. She's also smarter than to sell her soul to get what she wants.
Now we know the *real* reason Ursula took her voice.... -_-; The chit won't shut up! Poor Belle...
I always thought Ariel was a selfish, bratty character. She was rebellious, ditzy, and emotionally rash. I feel the same way about Jasmine as well. Very unlike our down-to-earth dreamer Belle. At least *Belle* respected her father the entire movie. And she and the beast have the truest interpretation of what love is. Not some pretty-boy you happen to randomly meet. Nor is it just a challenge of getting what you can't have.
I could have a whole separate argument relating Jasmine and Belle and their beaus. Namely regarding honesty coming first....But I'll desist. lol! Spare you the indulgence of my rantings.
I guess it's obvious at this point that I share your sentiment. XD Anywho, at the very least, I'd like to say that I really like your idea representing this. I can totally picture Belle being whelmed in this situation. And Ariel talking nonstop isn't a stretch of the imagination either.
I think the main reason I really prefer Belle to Ariel is her intentions from the start, you know? Ariel's all about falling in love and following your heart to be with the one you love, which I guesssss is okay in its way? But Belle gets kinda screwed in that she wants adventure and something more than what she has, but totally gives that up in an INSTANT to save her father's life (girl figured she'd be trapped in a tower forever! SOMETHING MORE indeed. Aren't we all lucky the beast is a big smooshy softie after all hoho). And hey, just happens to fall in love with the Beast along the way. I just love the fact that the whole way through the story it wasn't EVER about what Belle wanted, just what she felt was right. Go lady!
I do like Ariel. I like all the princesses. But Belle has always been one of my favorites, and Ariel is no role model (although she does do more then Aurora or Snow White). Thank you for making this!
-- Daine frowned, remembering. "My heart made too much noise. I wanted it to quiet down so I could talk with the dolphins." "Do you hear her?" Numair asked the clouds. "She wanted to talk to dolphins, so she stopped her own blessed heart! Mithros, Mynoss, and Shakith!"
Belle looks as though she's about to be eaten up by PacAriel X3 Poor girl. Belle pwns Ariel in so many qualities as an overall human being and as my favorite Disney character but I still like Little Mermaid. Great drawing reguardless ^^ Awesome work
Ahaha! Belle kicks the crap out of Ariel any day. My history teacher wouldn't even let her daughters watch The Little Mermaid because it's so sexist. I don't think it's /that/ bad, but it's not great either. Beauty and the Beast wins.
